The Hornets have finished their season with success against Haillan (3-2). A happy epilogue and a 4th historic place in N2 as a starting gift for the president of the CMVB.
The Hornets completed the season on a victory (3-2) against Haillan this Saturday. Are you a happy president?
Happy especially to finish on a victory. But like our season, we were on alternating current during this match, which surely deprived us of a place on the final podium. Happy to have seen a room full to crack with an atmosphere of the big evenings and an audience always present to attend this show, which was ultimately our initial objective. Happy to have shared this end of the season with the players, the staff and the volunteers who started this adventure with us.
You finish 4th in Pool B of N2 with 12 wins for 8 defeats, the best ranking in the history of Castres-Massaguel Volley-Ball (CMVB). Is it pride?
I do not know if we can pride ourselves from that, maybe because I am attached to the objective that we had set ourselves at the start of the season. We are finally very far from playing the leading roles in this hen, even an elite rise which – even if it was not officially announced – was still envisaged internally. But even if the 3rd place of Cagnes-sur-Mer seemed to our reach, the Monaco and Cannes Cadors were inaccessible for us this season.
With the stops of Emeli Schäffer, Laura Wierre and Mayara Lemouzy, is this the end of a cycle for this team?
-Clearly yes. We must not forget that it was the meeting with Mayara that allowed us to start this adventure four years ago since it was she who presented the other two former professionals to us. Without these three girls, a first climb in N2 would not have been possible and the course until today would surely not have been the same … Knowing that we are only allowed three mutated per season, we will have to rebuild on duration. We must also congratulate our young M18 and their coaches for their journey in French challenge. It is with them that the future could be built.
You will also pass the hand as president of the CMVB. Why this decision?
With my vice-president, we decided to pass the hand at a time when the initial project is on a good momentum and where our successors will suffice to blow on the embers to maintain the flame. The initial objective we had set for the senior women’s team, in the long term, was to reach League A. We realized that there was a glass ceiling both sportingly and financially to cross. I do not give up the club, I will continue to help it on the financial dimension, which is the real issue for the future management team. On the other hand, we will invest ourselves in other projects to contribute differently to the development of our territory.
What will you finally remember from these four years at the head of the CMVB?
I retain meetings, sharing an ambition, a project and that people can change. At the start of this adventure, we were a little criticized because we jostled habits. As we put things in place, and from the moment they materialized, people began to join. We realize that from a simple idea, if we give ourselves the means, we can federate. We can however regret not having known how to mobilize more volunteers and financial partners to carry this project. I remain convinced that there is always room for a high -level female sport in the department. The public is present, faithful and attached to the players. The soufflé should not fall back, the spectacle must continue.
