
This extraordinary donation, now exposed to public view, was offered to the Canadian population on the occasion of 150e Birthday of the Confederation
Ottawa, is, the 5 from 2025 / CNW/ – The Museum of Fine Arts of Canada (MBAC) will celebrate the donation of Mexico to the population of Canada, Listen to the world, volute 2 of the Mexicano-Canadian artist Rafael Lozano inhibitorduring a public event which will take place this Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 6.30 pm. This donation was made on the occasion of 150e anniversary of Canada and commemorates more than 80 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The work of art was offered by the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo. It is currently exhibited in the Rotunda of the MBAC.
This is Lozano-Hemmer’s second work to enter the MBAC collection. Listen to the world, volute 2 is a three -dimensional model of laser tomography representing the air expired by a person’s mouth when they pronounce the words “Listen to the World”. It is the first molded sculpture of the artist based in Montreal and known for his complex and often interactive technical installations and his digital works of art. This unprecedented project is the first of its kind to materialize speech thanks to the scanning and a rendering of speech bubbles, whose images appear in a didactic video adjacent to the work.
Listen to the world, volute 2 celebrates the Canadacountry of adoption of Lozano-Hemmer, and draws its title from a musical work by Canadian composer R. Murray Schafer, now deceased. Schafer was best known for his concepts of acoustic ecology and sound landscape, which exerted a considerable influence on the artist.

This free activity is presented by the MBAC in collaboration with the Mexico Embassy at Canada and the Fundación Jumex Arte Contemporáneo.
