Following the general power outage that affected Spain as well as several other European countries, the Algerian Department of Post and Telecommunications recently issued an informative note alerting the population against the risks of disturbances in Internet services, especially in the coming hours. This exceptional situation could have repercussions on user connectivity, both in Algeria and internationally.
The electricity failure has notably disrupted critical infrastructure, including underwater cable stations, which are essential for the delivery of data through the continents. These are mainly found in Spanish coastal cities, and their assignment could lead to cuts or temporary degradation of Internet services. Due to the interconnection of networks between Europe, Algeria and Morocco, these disturbances could also affect the Cherifian kingdom, where operators have already taken similar preventive measures in order to limit the consequences on users.
To remedy this, security measures have been put in place to ensure maximum continuity of services. Rescue systems, including batteries and electric generators, have been deployed to compensate for this power cut. These devices aim to maintain the essential services for a fixed period, while ensuring a return to normal as soon as possible.
The Algerian Department of Post and Telecommunications reassures the population regarding the management of the situation. The technical teams remain fully mobilized to restore the quality of service and guarantee the continuity of the networks. The authorities continue to closely follow the evolution of this energy crisis and are ready to intervene to limit the impact on users as much as possible.
In addition, although the situation remains exceptional and independent of the will of the operators, the ministry invites citizens to show patience and understanding in the face of the inconveniences caused.
-To what it seems, Morocco is not spared by these “disturbances”, some users of the Orange operator have already reported malfunctions in their Internet services, with intermittent connections and reduced speed.
Another scenario not to be underestimated. The Portuguese Deputy minister of Territorial Cohesion admitted this Monday that the energy failure that affects Portugal could be due to a cyber attack, adding that it also affects Spain, France and Germany.
Asked about the possibility that it is a cyber attack, Manuel Castro Almeida responded to RTP 3 that it was a ” possibility, but that it was not confirmed« .
« There is indeed this possibility“Said the minister, stressing that he still had little information and that those he had was not confirmed.
« Jhe knows that this concerns several European countries – Portugal, Spain, France and Germany and I also believe Morocco », Déclaré Castro Almeida.
