Fulgurating growth of music generated by AI
The phenomenon of music produced by artificial intelligence is intensifying on streaming platforms. Deezer, a French online music platform, reveals that 18 % of the pieces added daily to its catalog are generated at 100 % by AI tools, which represents nearly 20,000 titles each day.
This volume almost doubled in the space of two months, since in January 2025, this share was still estimated at 10 %. The development of services like Suno or UDIO, accessible without musical knowledge, largely explains this explosion of content.
Powerful but problematic tools
These technologies are often based on existing musical databases to train their models, which raises, as always, many legal questions.
Several large record companies, such as Universal Music, Sony Music or Warner Music, have started prosecution against these startups, accusing them of massive copyright violations.
Artists like Billie Eilish or Stevie Wonder have publicly expressed their concern, and believe, probably, that AI may ultimately marginalize human creators and jeopardize artistic creativity. Deezer, for its part, insists on the need for ethical and legal supervision of the development of these tools.
And Deezer’s response to this problem?
To cope with this rise in power, Deezer deployed in early 2025 a tool for the detection of the pieces generated by AI. This device makes it possible to identify the products produced by generators such as Suno or UDIO and to exclude them from personalized recommendations.
The objective is to limit their visibility in the playlists offered to users and to preserve the income of traditional artists. The pieces generated remain available on the platform, but their distribution is now framed to reduce abusive practices, especially those of fraudsters who seek to monetize mass produced.
A changing music industry
The massive arrival of musical content generated by IA clearly transforms the landscape of the music industry. Deezer has already removed nearly 26 million songs in 2024, a large part of which came from the AI.
The platform says it wants to continue to collaborate with the entire sector to develop joint detection and regulation standards. If some see it as creative potential, the majority of actors plead for stricter regulations to guarantee transparency, respect for rights and just remuneration of songwriters.
