A shooter was at least six injured on the Campus of the Florida University in Tallahassee on Thursday, according to the hospital in this city in the southeast of the United States.
“A shooter has been reported in the student center area,” warned the university around mid-day on X. “The police are on site or on the way. Continue to shelter and wait for new instructions. ”

The Tallahassee Memorial Hospital explained in a statement that the establishment “receives and actively supports patients linked to an incident that occurred at Florida State University”.
“We have six patients, including one in critical condition and the others in serious condition,” linked to the shooting, told AFP a hospital spokesperson, attached by phone. “Several police services are actively working to secure the university campus,” said Tallahassee police on X.

According to the Tallahassee Democrat, a local newspaper, Sam Swartz was in the basement of the student center of the University when the shots broke out. “Everyone has started to panic,” said this student, who says he has heard about ten shots.
A group of eight people, who worked on a project, gathered in a corridor and barricaded themselves with trash cans and plywood panels, he said.
“I remember learning to do my best to save them time, because they don’t want to do anything who takes time, they just try to kill as many people as possible,” said SWARTZ.
More firearms than inhabitants
With more firearms in circulation than residents, the United States displayed the highest firearm mortality rate in all developed countries.
The shootings are a recurring scourge that successive governments have so far failed to stem, many Americans remaining very attached to their arms. In the United States, the right to wearing a weapon is protected by the second amendment to the Constitution.
In 2024, more than 16,000 people, not to mention suicides, were killed by firearm, according to the NGO Gun Violence Archive.
