Here is a small overview of the strikes under way or planned in the province in the coming weeks and which could disrupt the daily life of Quebecers.
Strikes in progress
Engineers
The members of the Professional Association of Engineers of the Government of Quebec (APIGQ) have started an unlimited general strike since May 2, to advance negotiations within the framework of the renewal of their collective agreement. This strike could in particular affect certain works and sites on the roads.
Probable or negotiation strikes
Early childhood centers (CPE)
If the union representatives of the 13,000 workers from the early childhood centers (CPE) and the Quebec government reached a principle on Tuesday, after ten days of strike, unionized employees still have to decide to adopt it or not.
Sitaq
The members of the Syndicat of the Public Service and Parapublique du Québec (SFPQ), who work in the 13 wildlife reserves of the Société des Establiques de Outdoires du Québec (sepaq), will be on strike from May 15, if no agreement is found by then at the negotiating table.
A strike notice was sent to the Minister of Labor on Monday and to the Directorate of the sepaq for three days of ranging.
The collective agreement for some 2,500 sepaq workers has been expired since December 31, 2023.
Canada Post
-Recall that the union fees of Canada Post sparked a strike just before the end of year celebrations, before the Federal Labor Minister forced them to return to work.
Their collective agreement had then been extended until May 22, 2025.
Negotiations have now resumed, but if no agreement occurs before this date, a new strike may be triggered.
At stm
The around 2,400 maintenance employees of the Montreal Transport Company (STM) will be on strike on May 25, if no “significant” advanced is done at the negotiating table.
These workers, without a collective agreement for more than a year, voted on February 16 in favor of a strike mandate which could go as far as the unlimited general strike to use at the right time.
Hydro-Québec
Seven out of nine unions at Hydro-Québec have had strike mandates in April. They have been negotiating with their employer since August 29, for the renewal of collective agreements.
Among them, we find in particular the sections of technologists, job employees and special constables.
