OPENAI is preparing to unveil a new generation of artificial intelligence models this week, in order to keep its lead in the face of increasingly ferocious competition embodied by giants like Google, Meta and Microsoft. This announcement comes as the Chatgpt platform is approaching the symbolic CAP of the billion users.
With these innovations, the American company intends to strengthen its global influence by offering even more efficient solutions, adapted to both individuals and businesses, in a dazzling development of generative AI.
According to information reported by The Verge, OPENAI plans to launch an extended range of models, with GPT-4.1 poster, presented as an improved version of the GPT-4O multimodal model, capable of processing text, images and audio in real time.
Two lighter variations, GPT-4.1 Mini and GPT-4.1 Nano, will also be offered. These versions will aim to meet various needs, while adapting to lower calculation resources.
The Openai roadmap goes even further, with the development of a model centered on reasoning, called O3, accompanied by a light version called O4 Mini. These models have already been seen in an updated version of the Chatgpt web interface, suggesting an imminent outing.
Although their launch is planned this week, delays are not to be excluded, due to constraints related to operational capacity.
In this context of strong activity, the CEO Sam Altman has suggested on X (formerly Twitter) that a new feature could soon see the light of day, without specifying if it is directly linked to the new models.
Altman also warned that the meteoric increase in demand could cause slowdowns of the service or delay the launch, in particular for image generation services, explaining that “our GPUs overheat”.
Finally, in a major strategic decision, Openai announced that GPT-4 will be withdrawn from the Chatgpt platform from April 30, to be replaced by GPT-4O, which will become the default model for all users.
