In full diplomatic and economic rapprochement with Morocco, the Republic of Korea took a major step towards the kingdom. Seoul has resolved to get out of its gray area. In a diplomatic declaration that opinion consulted, Seoul said he took note of the autonomy plan that the kingdom presented in 2007.
Korean diplomacy welcomes the serious and credible efforts made by Morocco to move forward towards a settlement of the conflict, “such expressed the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, including resolution 1754 adopted in 2007”.
This decision was communicated to Moroccan diplomatic authorities, in particular at the Embassy of the Kingdom in Seoul.
In parallel, Seoul continues to support the United Nations efforts for peaceful regulations. According to the document, Korea has reiterated its commitment to strengthen its relations with Morocco which Korea now considers a leading country in Africa.
Thus, Seoul gives a new guarantee of his desire to strengthen his promising partnership with the Kingdom. The Korean government measures how existential the Sahara is for Moroccans.
For the moment, it is a symbolic gesture. By taking note of the Moroccan initiative, Korea opens the door to a possible evolution of its position. Seoul has always retained a benevolent neutrality by making sure not to invite the Polisario to the summits organized with the African Union.

For their part, Moroccan officials are increasingly going to Korea. This is evidenced by the last visit of the Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, in April 2025.
Currently, Seoul wants to move up a speed. The Koreans aspire to conclude a free exchange treaty within the framework of an Economic Partnership Agreement (APE).
This agreement coveted by Koreans is intended to promote investments and, above all, the bilateral trade which remains derisory. The total volume of trade between is estimated at $ 550 million. However, Morocco remains a major partner in Africa. It is the eighth largest trading partner, as the Korean Minister of Commerce, Industry and Energy, Ahn Duk-Geun, recalled in a recent interview with opinion.
