
Several memorandums of understanding were signed yesterday by Algeria and the Sultanate of Oman. These bilateral agreements cover various sectors of strategic cooperation and reflect the common will of the two countries to energize and strengthen relations between them in a mutually beneficial spirit of partnership.
The signature ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Republic, at the end of the interviews which took place between the Head of State, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and the sultan of Oman, Haitham Ben Tariq. In this context, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Office for Geological and Mining Research (OrgM), a subsidiary of the Sonarem group, and the Oman Minerals Development (MDO), a company under the Oman’s investment authority.
The agreement was formalized by the officials of the two entities, Belkacem Soltani, and the executive president of the MDO, Mattar Bin Salim Al Badi. In the energy field, a sheet of conditions relating to a preliminary agreement between the Sonatrach group and the Omanaise company Abraj Energy Services was signed by the CEO of Sonatrach, Rachid Hachichi, and the executive director of Abraj Energy Services, Said Said Al Hamhami.
On another component linked to the field of pharmaceutical production, the Algerian Minister of the Pharmaceutical Industry, Wassim Kouidri, and the Minister of Health of Sultanate of Oman, Hilal Bin Ali Al Sabti, initialed a memorandum of agreement relating to the pharmaceutical industry.
In addition, an executive program for scientific and technical cooperation in the field of fishing has been signed between the National Center for Research and Development of Fisheries and Aquaculture (CNRDPA) and the Center for Aquatic Sciences and Fisheries from Oman.
The document was signed by the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Fisheries, Youcef Cherfa, and the Omani Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, Saud Bin Hamood Al Habi.
In the same sector, the two ministers also signed an executive program relating to a cooperation understanding in the fields of plant protection and animal health, as well as a memorandum of cooperation agreement in the agricultural field.
In addition, an executive cooperation program was concluded between the Ministry of Labor, Employment and Social Security and the Oman Sultanate Ministry of Sultanate, in terms of labor inspection for the period 2025-2027. The agreement was signed by the Minister of the Sector, Fayçal Bentaleb, and the Omani Foreign Affairs Minister, Badr Bin Hamad Albusaidi. Another executive cooperation program in the field of higher education and scientific research for the period 2026-2028 was signed by the Minister of the Sector, Kamel Baddari, and the Omani Foreign Minister.

Increase in exchange volume
The justice sector was not to be outdone, since a memorandum of understanding on judicial cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Justice, led by Lotfi Boudjemaa, and the supreme judicial council of the Sultanate of Oman and another of cooperation was also signed between the ministries of justice of the two countries.
Furthermore, a sheet of conditions relating to the creation of a joint investment fund, amounting to $ 300 million, between the Ministry of Finance and the Oman Investment Authority, was also signed by the Minister of the Sector, Abdelkrim Bouzred, and the president of the Oman, Abdulsalam Bin Mohammedi Al Murshidi. As a reminder, last October, President Tebboune had made a state visit to the Sultanate of Oman, during which the two leaders underlined their desire to continue the development of bilateral cooperation in various fields.
This new dynamic between the two countries is clearly reflected in the volume of trade, which experienced a significant increase last year. Thus the volume of trade between the Sultanate of Oman and Algeria increased in 2024 by almost 48%, compared to the year before.
Statistics also show that the total omani exports to Algeria in 2024 amounted to approximately 62.3 million Omans, or nearly $ 162 million. Omanae imports from Algeria during the same year were about 0.707 million omani Rials, or 1.8 million dollars.
Oman’s sultan, Haitham Ben Tarek, began a two-day state visit to Algeria on Sunday, the first of its kind since that of Sultan Qabous in 1973, at the summit of non-aligned countries.
This trip is a continuation of the efforts made by the two countries to strengthen their relations. Accompanied by a high -level ministerial delegation, the Sultan intends to consolidate a strategic partnership between Algiers and Mascate, based on close political and economic cooperation, as well as a strong convergence of views.
