Alain Sutter is released at GC – Stephan Schwarz

The Grasshopper Club Zurich is organizing its sporting leadership: Alain Sutter, as head of sports, follows Stephan Schwarz, who has to clear his post with the record champions after a little more than a year. The 57-year-old Sutter worked successfully at FC St.Gallen between 2018 and 2024. The ex-professional was at GC as a coach for eight years. Now he says: «Despite the big challenges, I am really happy to be back at GC. This club gave me a lot and I will do everything I can to be successful again. »

After the disappointing 0-2 loss in Winterthur on Saturday evening, the fear of relegation at GC has become even larger. The Grasshoppers are now tied with the bottom in 10th place, in between Yverdon with 33 points, but one game less. Nevertheless, Sutter says: “Like the ownership and the board of directors, I see great potential and believe in the long -term project.”

Those responsible at the Grasshoppers are also pleased about the commitment of the ex-national player. “Alain Sutter will be an important basic building block for the future of the club in Swiss football,” believes GC President Stacy Johns. For the time being, however, the full focus was on relegation.

Harald Gärtner, the managing director of partner club Los Angeles FC responsible for Europe, is also positive: “Alain is the right person to lead GC into the future.” Sutter will “help the club with its sporting competence and experience in the long term in the sustainable structure of GC”. In addition, the club in Sutter receives “a strong voice outwards”.

Between 1985 and 1993, Sutter played 262 competitive games for the Grasshoppers and each won the championship and the cup twice. Then he moved via Nuremberg to Bayern Munich. He wore the Swiss jersey 62 times. After his career, Sutter worked as a SRF expert for a long time before starting his career as a sports director in 2018. (nih)
