The Brunet family ended up in front of almost nothing, Wednesday April 16 in the morning, after seeing a fire ravaging part of their house in Saint-Basile-le-Grand.
An electric fire would have been the cause of this fire. Jean-François’s spouse, witness to the scene, tried to master the flames with a fire extinguisher, but without success. One of his boys had to call the firefighters and the whole family, including the two cats, left the house while waiting for their arrival.
After the firefighters ‘intervention, it is necessary to repair part of the exterior coating, the insulation of the wall where the fire started, the corridor and the boys’ rooms. It is also necessary to replace the washer and the dryer, all the mattresses as well as many goods, such as the clothes which were on the top of the dryer at the time of the start of the fire. Family members expect to invest more than $ 60,000 to repair their home and replace lost material goods during this drama.
No insurance
Jean-François was at work in the morning. The important thing for him is that his spouse, their two children and their cats have come out safe and sound.
After having noticed the extent of the damage caused by the flames and the water used to extinguish the blaze, the father said that “the house was not insured for some time … We have lost a lot,” he explains, emotional in front of the situation. He still keeps morale and smile.
Jean-François’ family must have pounded on their pride to ask for help from loved ones. “We are used to being those who help others. We never ask for anything, ”he explains.
So that we can make the necessary renovations at home and the victims relocate the time of the work, the relatives have rolled up their sleeves in order to request help with the fellow citile fellow citizens.
“The daughter of my best friend left a gofundme to help us,” explains Jean-François. It is this same friend also who has already started work outside the house to allow Jean-François, his spouse and his children to return to their home. Meanwhile, they all live in a twin in Saint-Bruno, which they rented for a month.
Moral and material support
The initiative will have paid fruit quickly, since in two weeks, nearly 150 donations, totaling more than $ 12,000, were raised. It was also towards social media that the Brunet family was able to find support. Cituityans, on the various Facebook publications on this subject, offered them good words of courage.
