The 2025 world hockey championship begins tomorrow, May 9, and this year, the event will be held jointly in Sweden and Denmark.
Several big names in the NHL will take part in representing their country, and on the Canadian side, the defender Mike Matheson recently confirmed his participation to join the Sidney Crosby, Nathan MacKinnon and company.
The supporters, however, hoped to see another well -known face of CH joining Canadian ranks: that of Nick Suzuki.
The captain had indeed received an invitation from Hockey Canada, and given the fact that he wishes to be part of the national team at the Olympic Games next winter, many expected him to respond positively. However, he had not yet agreed, for a very specific reason: the injuries he dragged at the end of the season.
-Today, the decision has fallen. The captain of the CH has officially declined the offer, preferring to take the time necessary to recover fully.
A responsible decision, although a little disappointing for amateurs, but understandable considering the importance of its long -term health. With a demanding season behind him and a key future within the Canadian, the choice to prioritize healing demonstrates his maturity and his sense of responsibility towards his team.
Despite this notable absence, team Canada will count on a solid alignment, ready to compete at the highest level as soon as the tournament is opened tomorrow.
