Ariana Grande was not among the guests at the 2025 Met Gala.
Though her Wicked costars Cynthia Erivo and Jeff Goldblum attended, Grande was notably absent from the blue carpet. All Grande’s most recent red carpet appearances, including at the 2025 Oscars, have been in support of Wickedso perhaps the Met Gala didn’t fit that method dressing. Ahead of Wicked: For Goodthe second part of the film which premieres this November, it’s unclear if Grande will stick to an exclusively Glinda-inspired wardrobe.
However, no specific reason has been shared as to why Grande missed the 2025 Met Gala.
Grande recently released Eternal Sunshine Deluxe: Brighter Days Ahead, a deluxe edition of her 2024 album, but she is already back promoting the Wicked franchise.
“I cant think of a time when I wanted something the way I wanted to play this role,” she told NPR about portraying Glinda on the big screen. “It’s an incredible privilege to be a part of this version of it and to have it be so accessible to so many people and to see the response be what it’s been. I think so many new theater kids have been born.”
Grande attended last year’s Met Gala in an ethereal Loewe gown, inspired by nature. “Pearl is my birthstone, so it’s very meaningful to me for that reason—as well as the subtle ways in which I feel like it nods to Glinda’s bubble and to Wicked with its subtle opalescent winks of pink and green,” she told Vogue at the time.
Besides last year, Grande has only attended the Met Gala one other time, in 2018. For the “Heavenly Bodies” theme, she wore a Vera Wang gown featuring images from Michaelangelo’s fresco “The Last Judgement,” which can be seen on the sanctuary wall of the Sistine Chapel.
