Located in the 1950s in California, The Indomed First distills the pleasure of seeing on the screen a beautiful reconstruction of these years considered as a golden age in Hollywood, when the United States asserts itself as a flagship of Western civilization, in a march to positive progress, now anchored in consumerism which will win the whole planet.
Muriel finds her husband Lee, returning from the Korean War (1950-1953) with whom she started a new life. The arrival of Lee’s brother, Julius, an inveterate player with mysterious past, will establish a love triangle soon upset by Lee’s love for a young card player. Muriel finds an outlet in horse racing and the discovery of a love she did not expect.
Daniel Minahan sticks to the glamorous image of the sumptuous Hollywood years. Located in the world of the game, rather than the more expected that of cinema, is a major asset of Untamed And offers magnificent images of the horse background, less awaited than that of cinema. Daisy Edgar-Jones who interprets Muriel, of all plans, interprets a difficult role with presence and talent, and would not deserve recognition to the Oscars.
The Indomed Constitutes a nice American surprise before the Cannes Film Festival which did not retain it in its selection. Its classic form is undoubtedly voluntary to counterbalance its subject, somewhat sulfurous. To the realization, Daniel Minahan shows the greatest elegance, in a sober and realistic reconstruction, while drawing endearing and complex characters, on a romantic scenario which carries from start to finish as in an action film. Amazing.
