During each end of the day of Grand Prix, in France as everywhere else, Michelin broadcasts its technical notes concerning the more or less perfect osmosis between the track and the MotoGP tires which it provides to all competitors in the queen category.
In this regard, the Bugatti circuit, although very typed “Stop & Go”, does not pose a major problem for French tires, perfectly suited to its coating.
Marc Marquez Even offered the luxury of breaking the record for the Sarthois circuit from the first day.
So here are the Friday Michelin technical notesstated by Piero TaramasssoTwo-wheeler manager from Michelin Motorsport.
-“Le Mans, the first day, is the Michelin Grand Prix, so an important meeting for us. This morning, it was quite cold. The track temperature was around 20 °, but the wind was fresh, and this is the difficult point on this circuit: you have to keep the temperature in the front tire because there is cold wind. Anyway, this morning, with the tender front tire and the medium rear tire, all the pilots were generally satisfied. The front was ok, no temperature problem, but for some drivers who were more aggressive, it was a little too tender. Anyway, they stayed with the front of the front during the whole session. As for the rear medium, it offered good grip and very great constancy. The pilots were therefore able to work on the settings of their motorcycle.
And then, in the afternoon, the sun rose. The temperature of the track was a little hoter, around 29 °, and the choice of tires was hard at the front and tender at the back. This is the combination used last year for the sprint, and for the Sunday race, and this combination was very good. Already in the morning, the times on the turn were fast, but in the afternoon, they were very fast, and Marc Marquez managed to break the record of the Tour. It is therefore a good performance and good consistency on the part of the tires. The pilots do not feel any drop in rear tire diet. The tender and the mediums work well because the asphalt is not very aggressive, but the level of adhesion is there, so we do not expect a problem of degradation, of wear, on the tires. So for now it’s a good first day for the Michelin Grand Prix. »»
