towards a strategic and sustainable economic partnership

This strategic orientation responds to complex geopolitical, economic and social imperatives. Each initiative taken by the kingdom is part of a long -term vision aimed at positioning the country as a continental hub while preserving its macroeconomic balances.

As part of the strengthening of fraternal relations of cooperation, as well as the economic and commercial partnership between the kingdom of Morocco and the Arab Republic of Egypt (a country of more than 100 million inhabitants, strategically located near and Asia), a economic mission is currently visiting Cairo to participate in the Egyptian-Moroccan forum of investment and trade under the theme “ A broad economic partnership »From May 3 to 5, 2025.

On the sidelines of the Forum, the Secretary of State to the Minister of Industry and Trade, in charge of foreign trade, Omar Hejira, stressed that this participation constitutes a clear message of the kingdom’s desire to strengthen its partnership and cooperation with Egypt. When the forum is opened, he said that, far from any logic of competition, Morocco aspires to establish a real complementarity between the economic actors of the two countries.

In addition, Hejira revealed that trade between the two countries reached nearly $ 1.1 billion in 2024. However, he stressed that Moroccan exports represent only 6 % of Egyptian imports, highlighting the need to reverse this trend.

In the same spirit, the president of the Morocco-Egypt Affairs Council, Mohamed Ali Tazi, said that the main objective of this visit does not reside in the conclusion of rapid business or punctual initiatives, but in the desire to lay the foundations for a lasting economic alliance, capable of creating jobs, promoting the transfer of know-how and improving the competitiveness of industrial systems in the two countries.

Continuing his intervention, Mohamed Ali Tazi mentioned the need to activate all the provisions provided for by the Agadir , which constitutes a promising regional framework for economic and commercial integration between the Member States, at the forefront of which are Morocco and Egypt. Such a dynamic is likely to up large opportunities for Moroccan exports and strengthen the positioning of the Kingdom’s both in regional and international markets.

This forum, marked by the participation of managers, economic players and businessmen from the two countries, is organized by the Moroccan Confederation of Exporters and the General Confederation of Enterprises in Morocco, in coordination with the State Secretariat for Foreign Trade. It aims to strengthen the presence of Moroccan products on the Egyptian and to bring national exports to Egypt at $ 500 million by 2026.

Moroccan strategy for reinforced access to markets

In addition, this participation does not constitute a in relations between Egypt and Morocco, but is part of a continuity which testifies to the constant will of the Kingdom to strengthen its bonds of cooperation with Cairo. In March 2025, the Moroccan and Egyptian trade ministers agreed to create a fast track to facilitate access to Moroccan products to the Egyptian market, especially in strategic sectors such as the automobile.

Likewise, the two countries are betting on complementarity in several promising sectors, such as food, pharmaceutical industry, renewable energies, transport, logistics and financial services.

For Morocco, Egypt is perceived as an access platform in the Middle East and East Africa, while, for Egypt, Morocco opens the door to West Africa and Europe. The fact that the two partners are members of several regional and international organizations, including the Arab , the GAFTA and the Agadir Agreement for the Free Trade area between Mediterranean Arab countries, considerably facilitates their economic and commercial cooperation.
