Morocco and Mauritania embody a strategic convergence, forming a crucial connection between three fundamental spheres, namely Africa, Europe and the Arab world, with an extension naturally oriented towards Asia and Eurasia. Their common roots in African depth gives their partnership a singular dimension, creating a space for privileged interactions and mutual commitments, conducive to innovative and sustainable cooperation, the president of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami on Friday.
The work of the first session of the Mauritano-Moroccan economic parliamentary forum began this Friday, May 9, 2025 in Nouakchott, under the chairmanship of Rachid Talbi Alami and the President of the Mauritanian Assembly, Mohamed Bamba Meguett.
The start of the work was marked by the participation of several Moroccan and Mauritanian officials, notably Ahmed El Bouari, Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, Rural Development and Water and Forests, Omar Hejira, Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Memma Beibatta, Mauritanian Minister of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, Codioro Moussa Neguenre, Minister Mauritanian delegate in charge of the budget, El Houssein Ould Meddou, Minister of Culture and communication, spokesperson for the Mauritanian government, as well as El Fadhil Ould Sidaty, Mauritanian Minister of Fisheries and Maritime Infrastructures.
Intervening on this occasion, Talbi Alami put in evidence that common rooting in Africa constitutes a unique strategic space, conducive to a partnership based on a win-win logic, promoting economic development and exchange of values. He stressed that Morocco and Mauritania occupy a key position as a pivotal actor between three geopolitical blocks, notably Africa, Europe and the Arab world, with a natural extension to Asia and Eurasia.
The president of the House of Representatives has thus reaffirmed that The process of Atlantic African States, initiated by King Mohammed VI, constitutes a highly ambitious approach and an essential base for continental African integration. He said that the increased strategic value of this process lies in its complementarity with the Integration of Nations Integration initiative in the Atlantic Ocean, also proposed by the Sovereign, in order to break the maritime isolation of certain African countries without access to the sea.
-In addition, the manager has confirmed that Mauritania and Morocco are called upon to play a decisive role in these two projects, which are carrying out a strategic dimension of international scope.
In this sense, Talbi Alami took the opportunity to call the two legislative chambers to support government projects and private sector initiatives in the two countries, by encouraging joint investments in order to meet the challenge of rise in power and mutual development.
In addition, the president of the first chamber of Parliament stressed that this first session of the Maurito-Moroccan economic parliamentary forum marks a decisive step in the deepening of bilateral relations, transcending material interests to strengthen fraternal and historical links between the two peoples.
He also recalled that, if political relations embody an exemplary model between two neighboring nations, and if cultural and human ties promote fraternal communication, then, on the economic, technological and services, these relationships still have considerable potential to exploit.
To conclude, Talbi Alami insisted on the need to use these levers and foundations to meet the major common challenges together, in particular stability, the fight against drought and desertification, responsible management of migratory flows, in an unstable geopolitical context.
