The National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE) opened, for the first time, effective access to renewable electricity to its customers supplied on average voltage (MT), crossing a new stage in the architecture of the Moroccan energy transition.
More than 60 gigawattheures (GWH) of green electricity, from private producers connected to the national transport network, are now provided to companies under MT contract with ONEE. Among these beneficiaries are, among other things, Tanger with utilities in the northern region, Saint -Gobain in the Kenitra area and Managemfor two sites located in Ouarzazate.
A major regulatory development
This evolution stems from the application of law 13-09 relating to renewable energies, which, since its entry into force, has already enabled around thirty very high voltage (THT) and high voltage (HT) customers, essentially industrial, to obtain clean electricity. To date, the cumulative volume provided to these categories amounts to more than 21.2 terawatt hours (TWh).
With this extension to MT customers, ONEE confirms its vocation as a catalyst for producers of renewable energy and facilitator for consumers anxious to improve their environmental assessment. The institution pursues, in doing so, a double objective: to encourage private investment in clean production, and promote increased penetration of non -carbon sources in the national energy bouquet.
Reliability and network resilience
Onee also deploys important programs intended to ensure the stability of the electrical system, in particular in the face of the intermittent of renewable energies. Storage devices, flexibility means and an expansion program of the transport network – multiplied by five by 2030 – are being deployed.
