Much more than a financial transaction, the redemption by the Emirati Amea Power of the parts of Italgen Morocco in wind energy from Morocco is part of a Moroccan energy repositioning strategy. This movement illustrates the growing interest of non-European actors in the Moroccan market for renewable energies, and reflects a Moroccan desire to diversify its partnerships while strengthening its position as regional energy hub.
The Emirates Amea Power LLC company, one of the renewable energy companies knowing the fastest growth in the region, with a portfolio of more than 6 GW of projects in around twenty countries, has taken total control of the Société Éolien du Maroc SA. This operation was formalized by decree n ° 2.24.385, published in the official bulletin n ° 7370 bis. This acquisition is part of Morocco’s economic strategy aimed at strengthening its partnerships with the Gulf countries, especially in the strategic field of energy.
Based in Dubai, the beneficiary company Amea Power LLC specializes in the development of projects linked to several key technologies, in particular terrestrial wind, photovoltaic solar, battery storage, as well as green hydrogen and ammonia. It already operates several projects in Morocco, for a total production capacity exceeding 200 MW, and plans to strengthen its presence through new investments, especially in green hydrogen and seawater desalination. An emblematic project, of an ability to reach 1 GW, is also envisaged in the south of the kingdom.

This decision is part of Morocco’s strategy aimed at intensifying its partnerships with the Gulf countries, in particular the United Arab Emirates, in order to counterbalance the historic influence of Europe in the energy sector. Amea Power benefits from the implicit support of the emiratic authorities, who consider Morocco as a strategic hub for their ambitions in Africa. This acquisition thus strengthens the economic ties between Rabat and Abu Dhabi, in a context where the Emirates seek to extend their presence on the emerging energy markets.
-In the same dynamic of energy cooperation, the state of Kano, Nigeria, signed in April 2025 a strategic partnership with several Moroccan companies, aimed at attracting $ 10 billion in investments over five years in renewable energies and mining resources. At the same time, the pipeline project of more than 6,000 km connecting Nigeria to Morocco, passing through several countries in West Africa, continues to represent another major axis of cooperation between the two countries.
Morocco has also concluded a strategic partnership with Zhongnan, a Chinese company specializing in advanced technologies, for the development of prediction systems for solar energy production, in particular for the benefit of the Noor Tafilalt solar complex. By associating with a leading technological player, the kingdom affirms its ambition to position itself as a regional leader in two key areas in 2025, the adoption of clean technologies and the transition to a green economy.
In addition, the kingdom benefits from close cooperation with Germany in the energy and sustainable transport sectors. This collaboration, supported by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), aims for the decarbonation of the transport sector and the modernization of energy infrastructure, through several projects intended to reduce CO2 emissions.
So many initiatives that confirm Morocco’s ambition to establish itself as a key player in the energy transition in Africa, focusing on proactive energy diplomacy and a diverse partnership strategy in the service of the energy sovereignty of the continent.
