(Ecofin agency) – Ethiopian Airlines seeks to increase its traffic by 30% compared to year. In view of the figures for the 9 months of the current season, the signals seem to be green to achieve this goal.

Passenger traffic at Ethiopian Airlines is in an upward dynamic with regard to the data allocated by several media to the Ministry of Transport. The company, according to them, transported 13.9 million passengers in the first nine months of the current budgetary financial year which extends from July 2024 to June 2025. This figure includes 11 million international passengers and 2.9 million travelers on lines.

It foreshadows a good performance for the company which had transported 15.8 million passengers throughout the past year according to the Association of Airlines (AFRAA), which plans to increase this flow by 30%. If it is maintained, the current trend could also allow the carrier to achieve its target of 8 billion in turnover, compared to 7 billion in the past .

What consolidate his position in the Afraa , while followed by Egyptair (9.8 million travelers), Royal Air Maroc (7.1 million) and Air (6.8 million). Competition is intensifying with these other carriers who also display ambitious goals for the years to come. RAM for example performs a to quadruple its fleet and densify its network, while Air Algeria wants to buy 16 planes and rent several for similar prospects.

According to his strategic plan “Vision 2035”, Ethiopian Airlines could reach 65 million passengers and 3 million tonnes of freight at this deadline. This would then allow him to bring his turnover to 25 billion USD.
