The Moroccan Football Selection (U20) began the African Cup of Nations (CAN Egypt 2025) by a great victory (3-2) against its Kenyan counterpart, Thursday at the June 30 stadium in Cairo.
The start of the match was more or less tight between the two selections with a small advantage for the Atlas lion cubs. Othmane Maamma almost enjoyed an error by goalkeeper Kenyan Benard Oyure. His little strike finally found the post.
The two teams then preferred to delay instead of venturing, waiting for the right moment to pass in front.
And it is the Kenyans who will succeed in opening the scoring by Lawrence Okoth from the 16th minute of the game. Avoiding the marking, he placed, with the timing that it takes, his recovery of the head of a perfectly pulled free kick.
The Atlas lion cubs will push forward in search of the equalization goal but the interventions of the Kenyan porter were decisive.
During the last five minutes of the first half, the nationals were very close to equalizing, but the two covers of Mouad Dahak were pushed by Kenyan defense.
By dint of “too much” insist, the protégés of Mohamed Ouahbi will eventually score the goal of equalization signed Yassir Zabiri in the additional time of the first period.
The start of the second half was more animated than its previous one. The Moroccans were the first to try to double the bet, before their Kenyan counterparts responded a few seconds later.
At the 10 minutes of the second period, Zabiri doubled the bet for Morocco, placing a millimeter center from Maamma from the head which was played from Kenyan’s left back.
Five minutes later, Saad El Hadad will launch a missile with a repelled right foot, in extremis, by the goalkeeper before hitting the post.
After this goal and the exit of Zabiri on injury just after his goal, the Moroccans will undergo the game of the Kenyans, who will manage to equalize by Hassan Kitaso in the 70th minute of the game.
However, the Atlas lion cubs will not let go. They will succeed in scoring the 3rd goal by Reda Laalaoui, still served by twirling Maamma.
Authoritarian and galvanized by this goal in advance, the Moroccans will obtain a penalty failed by Maamma.
During the second day, Morocco will cross iron on Sunday with Nigeria. He will then be opposed to Tunisia on Wednesday, May 7, on behalf of the third and last day.
