Omae Hilale highlights Manila Royal Strategic Initiatives in favor of developing countries

The Ambassador permanent representative of to the UN, Omar Hilale, explained the royal strategic initiatives in favor of developing countries, including intermediate income countries (PRI), when the ministerial on the PRIs held in Manila on April 28 and 29.

This event was the occasion for the official award of the presidency of the Group of PRIs in Morocco to the Republic of the Philippines.

Faced with this conference, chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, Enrique A. Manalo, the hilale ambassador notably cited the project of Nigeria-Maroc gas pipeline, the Royal Initiative for the Access of the Sahel countries in the Atlantic Ocean, as well as major programs of production and distribution of fertilizers in Africa and Asia which contribute to the food sovereignty of the global southern.

He stressed that these strategic initiatives reaffirm the constant commitment of the Kingdom to promote , inclusive and better suitable international cooperation for specific needs and vulnerabilities of PRIs.

The Manila’s conference occurs after the high -level ministerial meeting, held on February 5 and 6, 2024 in Rabat, under the presidency of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Moroccans residing abroad, Nasser Bourita. This conference was sanctioned by the Declaration of Rabat on the PRI.

In his opening speech, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines wished to pay tribute to the Presidency of the PRI group, welcoming the ambitious vision carried by the Kingdom and the structuring impact of the Declaration of Rabat, in international efforts to reposition countries with intermediate income in the heart of the Development Agenda.

He stressed that the action of Morocco made it possible to lay the foundations for a renewed strategic dialogue, based on solidarity, justice and recognition of the specificities of this category of countries. The Philippine Minister thus reaffirmed the commitment of his country to continue and consolidate the Moroccan heritage through a reinforced action within multilateral speakers.

For their part, the member states of the group of intermediate income countries (PRI) as well as representatives of the UN that took part in this conference, unanimously praised the driving role of the Moroccan presidency of this group for two consecutive years.

They formulated the wish that the ministerial declaration of Rabat will continue to inspire international action in favor of a fairer, more inclusive cooperation, and fully adapted to the challenges of the contemporary world in accordance with the spirit of the declaration of Makati, which crowned the of this ministerial conference.

The Moroccan delegation to this conference also included the director of economic diplomacy and cultural action, Abdellah Benmellouk, the kingdom’s ambassador to the Philippines, Mohamed Rida El Fassi, and Meryem Hamdouni, adviser to the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the UN.
