After several months of preparation, the future television channel of the Ouest-France group has officially unveiled its final name: Novo19. Abandoning the provisional name “OFTV”, this newcomer to the French audiovisual landscape is essential with a strong visual identity, marked by a purple mail logo and the figure 19 by exhibiting, symbol of its future TNT channel.
“We + you = novo, and our story begins soon”said the chain on its Bluesky account.
An ambitious and diverse programming
Novo19 will be distinguished by its location in Rennes. It will thus become the first national channel to set up in a city of less than a million inhabitants. True to his slogan “Life, in real life”the chain aims at “Reporting a plural France as it is really experienced by all French people and will honor the authenticity, the diversity of all regions “as the group had promised when it was announced.
“We will find documentary, magazines, information, fiction, entertainment …”, explained Guénaëlle Troly, director general of the channel, at BFM Business in October. She described a chain “Intelligent, positive, unifying and citizen”. The programming will include television news, reports, fictions, documentaries, shows, cinema and sport. A 75-minute daily talk show will also be broadcast during the week around 7 p.m.
Novo19 at the heart of an upheaval of the PAF
The arrival of NOVO19 is part of a deep transformation of the French audiovisual landscape. On July 24, 2024, the Audiovisual and Digital Communication Regulatory Authority (Arcom) awarded two new TNT frequencies, one to the Ouest-France group and the other to CMI. This decision, formalized on December 12, followed the controversial eviction of C8 and NRJ12.
Before the launch of NOVO19 scheduled for September 1, T18 (CMI) will begin to issue on June 6, 2025. This date will coincide with the implementation of a new numbering of channels on TNT. France 4 will replace Canal+ on Canal 4, the latter having decided to leave TNT to protest against the exclusion of C8. A block of information channels will also be created, bringing together BFMTV on Canal 13, CNews on the 14th, LCI on the 15th and Franceinfo on the 16. LCP-Public Senate will be accessible on Canal 8 and Gulli on the 12th.
