The AMF, the Association of Mayors of France, said in a press release published this Monday, March 14, that it will not participate in the conference on public finances organized by François Bayrou.
The Association of Mayors of France (AMF) announced Monday not participating in the conference on public finances organized by Prime Minister François Bayrou on Tuesday, denouncing in a press release “a communication sequence”.
“No detailed agenda or working document has been provided to the organizations summoned” to this high mass which will bring together ministers, parliamentarians, social security organizations or local communities, in order to start working on the necessary savings for the 2026 budget.
Concern
The AMF fears that this meeting will be intended only to “expose the analyzes of the Ministry of Economy and Finance” and to “reproduce a method which excludes any consultation or negotiation with the communities”.
On Sunday, the Minister of Finance Eric Lombard announced an effort “of 40 billion euros” next year, in “essentially” form of savings, to reduce the public deficit by 5.4% of GDP – target 2025 – to 4.6% in 2026.
On Monday, he indicated before employers’ organizations that these savings would concern both the State, Social Security and local communities and hopes to see emerge “a consensus” of “dialogue with all stakeholders” which will be initiated on Tuesday.
According to information from the gallery, “8 billion euros in efforts will be requested from local authorities”, after savings of around 2.2 billion euros charged to communities in the 2025 budget. The AMF “is at the disposal of the government for a real constructive and sustainable approach, with a work meeting prepared upstream”, according to the press release.
