We have just learned that the brother of Oliver Oakes, former director of the Alpine F1 stable, was arrested a few days ago with a huge sum of money on him and was accused of “transfer of illicit goods” by the British police.
Oakes resigned from his post as director of the Alpine stable on Tuesday evening, while his brother, William, was arrested last Thursday before being charged the next day. This may be the “personal” reason that prompted Oakes to resign.
Oliver Oakes has since gone for Dubai because it would also seem that certain Hitech cars were seized on their return from the Middle East.
William Oakes is still in detention and was in possession of a large sum of liquid money during his arrest in the Silverstone Park sector last Thursday, police said.
A spokesperson for the metropolitan police said: “William Oakes, 31, from Rugby, was charged with the transfer of illicit goods on Friday May 2 after being arrested in the Silverstone Park sector in Northampionshire, on Thursday, May 1, in possession of a large sum of liquid money. He appeared before the Northampon court of first instance on Saturday May 3 and was placed in pre -trial detention.”
He was among the administrators of Hitech Grand Prix, the company of which Oliver took full ownership only before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The OAKES family has close ties with the Russian oligarch Dmitry Mazepin.
-Until nine days before the invasion, she was 75 % owned by the Oligarch Mazepin, father of Nikita, former F1 Haas pilot.
The company was initially created by Oliver and David Hayle in 2015, before Dmitry took a participation a year later, when his son joined the stable in Formula 3.
When the situation between Russia and Ukraine broke out, Oliver created the new company Hitech Global Holdings LTD on March 11, 2022.
This new company was created to take control of Dmitry’s actions, which came from its investment company Bergon Management Ltd., based in Cyprus.
In terms of calendar, Oliver’s new company was created only three days after the sanctions pronounced against Dmitry and Nikita Mazepin by the European Union and the British government.
Nikita Mazepin has since obtained the cancellation of sanctions against him by the Court of Justice of the European Union.
