F1 – Lando Norris: “Whenever I did something good, I made two mistakes behind”

It was an eventful evening in terms of performance. How much was you satisfied with the car?

The car is good. She won the race. So yes, as satisfied as possible.

You did not seem happy after the qualifications. Are you more after the race?

It is a different situation. I qualified 6^e Saturday, which is frankly bad, so how could I be happy? It doesn’t make sense. Of course, I am a little more happy to have returned to the 3rd^e place. I took a good start and the 2^e Place was the best possible result today (Sunday), so we should have had it. But we did not have it, I did not have it, because of a few errors. So I have shared feelings. I think the rhythm was good, the car is clearly incredible, as Oscar proved, but I made too many mistakes.

What exactly happened on the starting grid, and did you immediately know that you were too far?

No. I think that at the beginning, I was too behind, so I tried to move forward little by little … and I did the opposite. It is the first time in my life that it happens to me. It shouldn’t happen, but it happened and I paid the price.

You made a great start after that and made a very good first round. What did you think of the race at that time?

Third, I was pretty happy. I saw that it would be difficult to go beyond George (Russell. Editor’s note). They (Mercedes. Editor’s note) were not so bad this weekend, a tenth and a half of the pole on Saturday, so clearly they are not in difficulty. I did not expect to exceed it easily … and in fact I did not exceed it at all. I was happy with my good first round, aggressive, attacking, as I was being. But then I had the penalty and everything became more complicated. I returned earlier to the stands than everyone, I had to attack more to try to recover 5 seconds and I barely succeeded.

But then, I was on more worn, much warmer tires, and I still paid the price. Whenever I did something good, I made two mistakes behind. I constantly held back in my progress today. So I’m glad the pace was there. It was difficult to double, the dirty air is just horrible. I am more satisfied with my pace today than yesterday (in qualifying. Editor’s note), but I’m still not in the best sensation with the car right now.
