As part of its future official arrival in Formula 1 as factory buyers, Audi announced on Monday a revision of its management structure. So far Technical Director and Director of Operations for Stake Sauber, the stable that will take the identity of the German manufacturer in a few months, Mattia Binotto is inducted as the Audi F1 project.
In this task, he will be responsible for the development of Hinwil (Switzerland, SAUBER) and Neubourg-sur-le-Danube installations (Germany, Audi headquarters), as well as in the future British technical center. As expected, Jonathan Wheatley, who arrived last month from Red Bull, will be at the head of racing operations as director of the team.
The clearly displayed objective of this realignment is to achieve greater unification and a greater integration of operations of the F1 project, in particular between the chassis and the engine.
At the same time, the post of operations director of Audi Formula Racing GmbH (AFR) – the entity in charge of the power units F1 – has been occupied since May 1 by Christian Foyer, in charge of “Operational process”. He takes on his shoulders the responsibility of Adam Baker, former CEO, who left the structure as part of a “Agreement by mutual consent” said the press release.
“We would like to thank Adam Baker for his commitment in recent years. He has played a decisive role in developing the global strategic concept for the arrival of Audi in Formula 1 and has launched the development of the power unit in Neubourg”said Gernot Döllner, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Audi AG. “With Christian Foyer, we integrate into the project an expert recognized in process structures in the development of F1 engines. His experience will contribute to ensuring the synergistic cooperation and the necessary speed in the context of the adventure that we have undertaken.”
AFR’s CEO position is deleted at the same time, while Stefan Dreyer will continue his mission as the development of the power unit as director of technology, while now being responsible for the spokesperson for the AFR board of directors.
