In search of at least one experienced pilot for its F1 debut next season, the Cadillac stable would like to convince Sergio Pérez but the Mexican would also be envisaged by other training.
It is a return that is preparing behind the scenes. Exfiltrated by the Red Bull stable at the end of the past season due to insufficient results, Sergio Pérez has never really said goodbye to Formula 1. Indeed, the name of the Mexican pilot is always mentioned for exercise 2026, which will see a new generation of single -seaters doing its debut and its experience could be an asset of weight for many stables. But one of them would be the most interested in the profile of the 35-year-old pilot, it is Cadillac. After finally obtaining the green light from the FOM for its arrival on the starting grid in 2026, the training led by Graeme Lowdon must present its colors this Saturday on the sidelines of the Miami Grand Prix and planned to give the name at least one pilot who will be driving his single -seaters. While the former Manor boss said he had to “move forward, select merit and build a team”, he said that there are “some very experienced pilots available” and Sergio Pérez is very clearly part. But it is on the side of the native of Guadalajara that the situation requires being clarified. Indeed, according to information from the British magazine Autosportthe Mexican is not yet fixed.
Pérez would be courted
He should thus make a decision concerning his future in the coming weeks, by the end of May, and Cadillac’s offer is not the only one on the table. Indeed, several stables could have at least a free bucket at the end of the 2025 season, notably Mercedes, Alpine and Audi with “Checo” Pérez which would then be inclined to make the discussions last to gauge the real interest of possible candidates. A factor that can also be taken into account by the Mexican is the motorization of each of the stables. Indeed, Cadillac will start its program with equipment provided by Ferrari before switching to the engine currently in development within the General Motors group, whose introduction to the start of the 2029 season was recently formalized by the FIA. As for the pilot who could accompany the Mexican if necessary, the name of Colton Herta continues to be placed high in the list but the current reserve driver of Ferrari Guanyu Zhou could also apply, he who was dismissed by Sauber at the end of the past season.
