The Jack Doohan F1 steering wheel at Alpine would be except at least up to the summer break. According to the German Auto Motor und Sport newspaper, the 22 -year -old Australian has a “grace period” until the summer.
The Race also reported that Doohan’s future at Alpine was no longer threatened immediately. Doohan was already fighting to keep his steering wheel at Alpine even before the start of his season, the signature by the Franco Colapinto team from Williams fueling speculation.
According to some rumors, Doohan would have only obtained a short-term race contract with Alpine-which would continue to the Miami Grand Prix-comprising clauses which would allow the French team to change their pilot in the event of counter-performance. The arrival of Colapinto on the eve of the 2025 season only increased the pressure on Doohan, which reacted to the questions concerning its position during the launch event of the F1 75 season in London.
Doohan experienced the start of the eventful season, with two big accidents in the first four heats in Australia and Japan. Despite this, and although he was preceded by his teammate at Alpine, Pierre Gasly, the team was encouraged by his progress during the Bahrain Grand Prix. Doohan shortly missed a place in Q3 and obtained its best results in qualifying, 11th place, before downgrading in 14th place during the Sunday race.
« He did a good job this weekend, and in general “Said Oakes after Sunday race in Bahrain. “” I know that the first free test session in Japan has destabilized it a little. But I think that this weekend, especially throughout the qualifications, of the Q1, of the first round of the Q2-I think that the last round of the Q2 disappointed it a little, because it was only a tenth of the Q3. »
“But then, in racing too, during the first two relays, he did a very good job. In the end, I think it was delicate. The safety car gathered everyone. In terms of competitiveness, it was difficult with these cars around. But I think he had a good weekend. »»
For his part, Pierre Gasly, meanwhile, made a breathtaking weekend by ranking seventh and scoring the first points of the year for Alpine.
