Fernando Alonso revealed in Saudi Arabia that his contract extended far beyond the 2025 and 2026 seasons, saying that he would have a role of ambassador or consultant for Aston Martin F1 if he decides to hang up his helmet.
At 44, the Spaniard is always efficient in F1 and he ensured that he wanted to ride until the end of 2026 at least in order to try his luck with the new single -seaters, especially since his future AMR26 will be designed by Adrian Newey.
So how far is he still running in Formula 1?
“Not up to 50 years in any case! But I do not know. This is why we left this possibility open in my contract. I absolutely wanted to run this year and next year because of the change of regulation, and I wanted to discover regulation 2026 and the arrival of Honda in the team.”
“Then, the surprise to learn that Adrian joined the team a few months later. There were elements that were interesting last year when we negotiated the contract together. But after 2026, I don’t know. I go there season after season. I will see how I feel, what is my motivation.”
-“I am very motivated for the moment, but I cannot guarantee that in three or four years it would not compromise the team. So we said that we were going to continue until the end of 2026. From there, I think I have an incredible relationship with Lawrence and Lance (Stroll). We can discuss frankly and see what is best for the team. I will always be able to help the team. contract if they wish and that I feel motivated.
Motivation level precisely: two years ago, he fought for pole position, towers in mind and even podiums. What does he think of what has been going on since? To be motivated is good, but is it still pretty patient?
“Yes. It is an incredible course so far. I think it’s my 50th Grand Prix with Aston. I probably do not imagine what we have accomplished in 50 Grands Prix. But we are now faced with more important difficulties than at the beginning.”
“At the same time, we are a much better team and much better prepared to fight for the world championships than two years ago, where we had a very small factory, used the Mercedes blower and may be missing from adequate people and partners for this project.”
“So yes, the results on the track are not the same as before, but I am very relaxed and very motivated. It’s just a transition period where we have to learn and prepare the team differently for the time the car will be ready to fight for the championships-the team will be ready at that time too.”
