Rubio will be accompanied by the special emissary for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, for “discussions with their European counterparts to advance the goal of President Trump to end the war between Ukraine and Russia and arrest the killing”, according to a statement.
Negotiations on the initiative of Donald Trump for a general cease-fire between kyiv and Moscow have not yet succeeded, the Russian attack on Sunday against Soumy, in northeast of Ukraine, having caused the death of at least 35 civilians, coming to testify to the continuation of this murderous conflict.
The emissary of the American president, however, said on Monday, three days after a new meeting with the Russian head of state Vladimir Putin, that the talks were “on the verge” to allow advances.
The interviews in Paris also take place while rare discussions between Tehran and Washington on the Iran nuclear program took place last Saturday in Oman’s sultanate, and that a new round is scheduled for April 19, still under the mediation of the Sultanate of Oman. First announced in Rome, these discussions will finally be held again in Mascate, the capital of Oman.
