Tensions agitate the Condorcet high school in Limay (Yvelines) after a controversy linked to a course on hell in medieval and classic poetry.
Hell in Muslim culture
The climate was set at the Limay Condorcet high school (Yvelines) after a medieval literature course, according to Actu.fr et Le Figaro. In October, a French teacher had presented a theme on the representation of hell in poetry from the Middle Ages to the 18th century. A student would have insisted on obtaining iconographic representations linked to thehell in Muslim culture. After consultation with her colleagues, the teacher refused, believing that this decision respected the principles of religious neutrality. Subsequently, another student would have made ambiguous remarks that can be interpreted as threatening. The latter would have made allusions during the teacher’s times, then launched a disturbing remark when she left the lessons. The Rectorate of Versailles confirmed the existence of remarks deemed “Inappropriate”without specifying its nature.

The student having claimed illustrations linked to thehell In the Islamic tradition would have reiterated its request on several occasions. The teacher concerned is currently on stop, which the rectorate has confirmed. On November 4, two representatives of the academic inspection went there to exchange with the educational team. A listening unit was made available to the assigned staff. In addition, members of the CAAEE -EMS (Academic Center for Aid to Schools and Establishments – Mobile Security Teams) were dispatched to the scene to appease the situation. The two high school students involved are the subject of a disciplinary procedure still in progress.
