Earlier this week, national coffee prices fell sharply, losing an average of around 1,300 VND/kg, reaching only 128,600 VND/kg. This worries many farmers as to the possibility of a rehearsal of the 2024 scenario, when the prices culminated at 134,400 VND/kg at the end of April, then fell to only 90,000 VND/kg in May, and had to wait until November to recover.

Despite fluctuations in the internal market, coffee exports in the four months of 2025 still recorded positive results. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, export turnover reached 3.78 billion USD, up more than 51% compared to the same period year, mainly due to a high increase in selling prices. The average export price reached 5,698 USD/ton, up 67.5% over one year, including roasted and instant coffee.

The Robusta coffee offer from Vietnam in the first quarter of 2025 will decrease, helping to support prices in the current context. According to the Directorate General of Customs, coffee exports in the first quarter of 2025 decreased by 15.3% compared to the same period last year, reaching only 495,780 tonnes.

The increase in demand and the decrease in supply have exerted pressure on pepper prices, which should remain high in the medium and long term.

On the American market, Vietnam remains the largest supplier of pepper in the first two months of 2025, representing more than 60 % of total imports. However, this proportion decreased compared to the same period of last year, when it represented almost 79 %. At the same time, increased its market share by 6.45 % to more than 20 %.

The average price of pepper imported from Vietnam has reached 7,465 USD/ton, the highest among the main suppliers, up almost 59 % compared to the same period in 2024. On the other hand, the price from India was the lowest, only 6,735 USD/ton.

To maintain their position on the global market, Vietnamese companies must focus on improving product quality, focusing on green and organic standards to meet increasingly strict demands.
