Marie-Claude Barrette is a woman who likes to be at the heart of the action, who does not hesitate to take up challenges and who, above all, has the privilege of doing what she loves in life. We discussed her different projects, but also of her role as grandmother, which fills it to the highest point.

The opportunity was good to hear from the host, who is right in the whirlwind of her many projects: “I am so busy!” She launches from the outset. It looks like there are a lot of things that arise for me, and I make choices. As I am enthusiastic, I tend to want to do everything at the same time, but it is not possible. I now have my business, Umano Productions (Editor’s note: without forgetting his broom, open your game). The MarieClub: well-being space requires a lot of energy and time, and that’s what it comes on. In addition to that, I also have a family! If you knew all the things I would have to do, but for which I have no time … I think all the time of all kinds of things, of projects. ”
There is something to wonder if it is a certain urgency to live which propels Marie-Claude: at 56, the host does not hesitate to take the double bites. “It’s very relative, age. It depends on the days: there are times when I find it huge, and others when I find myself young. I think of my grandson, Henri, who is extraordinary, and I wonder: “Yeah, until what age I will see him live?” I must not go there, but I sometimes feel the weight of age when I think of Henri. When he is 20 years old, I would have 76 … After having sold their condo, my daughter and his spouse, Nicolas, settled with us, with the baby, while waiting to be able to enter their house. It was extraordinary! I bought a baby park, believing that it was very small … but when Mario (Dumont, his spouse) And my son -in -law undertook to set it up, they asked me if I had taken the measures before placed the order, because the park in question actually occupies the whole show! But it’s really fun, because you can sit with Henri in the park. In the morning, when I’m alone with him, I’m gaga, and it makes me feel good. It brings back wonder and game in my life. When I play with him and fall asleep on me, I can’t go, even if I know that the nap will last two hours. I take advantage of it and it calms me. It’s like a second breath in my life, because I want to stay in shape. You have to be healthy with body and mind, I have to think of myself. Henri brings me this reflection a lot; If I want to accompany him, I have to take care of myself, because he will soon move quickly! I find it a great series of life, to have a grandson. ”
A stronger link than anything
When the host talks about her grandson, her eyes shine! “Listen, we already have a relationship, Henri and I. It has been very, very awake from the start. Recently, my daughter had to pack her suitcases for a trip, and as I had an hour and a half before me, I went to her house. I gave lunch to Henri, I dressed it … When he saw me, he lifted his little arms and his heart almost got me out of my chest! This physical proximity helps me and delights me. I keep it from time to time, and I can no longer when I know that Henri will arrive at my place. I do not yet know what kind of relationship we will have, but I know that I will be there for him. This link can be interesting, because I have already witnessed it: my children have confided in their grandparents. They lived something else with them, and they still live it Today. It is only my mother who died. I like to see that. The role of grandmother is different from that of mother, and I have never involved what my children lived with their grandparents. It’s the beauty of being a grandparent! It’s only happiness for the moment, and I think it will continue like this. I want to see him grow, this little bout-tall! ” she exclaims.
Like any grandmother, she already finds herself imagining the moments she can live with her grandson, as visiting the biodome. “I like it to go, and with a child, it’s even more relevant!” I also can’t wait to go around with him, to kayak, to go see shows. We will start with children’s shows, which I also loved to see in another era. The book fair, too, in the children’s section, is such an exceptional activity! I can’t wait to go on a trip with Henri and his parents, to take him to Walt Disney world. We made a little trip together in the fall, and my God that it was fun! I’m already starting to lug it. I go on a cruise at the end of May with Guylaine (Tremblay)Jeanick (Fournier) and Nathalie (Simard)and my two daughters will be on the trip, as well as Henri. ” All in all, the grandmother is as active as the host and the entrepreneur!
Nourish the flame
Mother of three children-two daughters and a boy (Angela, Charles and Juliette)-Marie-Claude has always been active and has never been the type to put aside her career or her activities. You just have to think about the music school that she has led for a while. Today, she happily sees her daughter Angela and her spouse adapt to their first child. “They are so many good parents, they are so beautiful to see!” I’m here to support my daughter, but I’m not here to look over her shoulder, ”she says.
The enthusiasm of Marie-Claude Barrette in her businesses nourishes her while keeping her connected to the essentials. “With age, I learned that when nobody around us believes in us, we do not do things as it should. We are still moving forward on tiptoe and we move away from our essence. When we respect his essence and his feeling of urgency, that those around us try to calibrate them without destroying them, this is where we go far. Now, I no longer let people who try to turn off my flame in my life. Never.”
-Marie-Claude is very often said to be inspiring, and this compliment appeals to her. “In the forties, in the fifties, in the sixties, we want to reframe ourselves, to think of ourselves. And that doesn’t mean we don’t think about others. I like to be seen as someone who knows how to enhance others. “And those who dare not tackle new challenges, she says:” It’s a choice. Unless your health stops you, there are all kinds of things that come into account. I always tell people: just raise your head. Look in front, not on the ground. “
Give the next
It is obviously not because she thinks of her that she forgets the rest of the world. “I talk a lot about social involvement and, moreover, I have recently been involved with Tel-Aide as president of a jury who will give the wellness prize to a Montreal volunteer who was involved in an organization each year. This award was given for the first time to Janette Bertrand, who was volunteer for 40 years. I get involved in it with Julie Bélanger, who is spokesperson for Tel-Aide. Also, I do many more conferences than before and, each time, I have the impression of being in communion with people. I find it exceptional. I saw great things and, afterwards, I hear what people have to say. And that’s what feeds everything else. The stake of old age often returns, shared custody, the doubts they may have in relation to their use; All this guides me in the subjects that I choose to approach. Open your game Also takes up a lot of space in my life, because it is present on stage. We walk around Quebec almost everywhere, ”she explains.
When she has her cellular in hand, it is therefore not always to consult her emails, but to take note ideas. “I would like to write, among others. I don’t know when it will be, but I want to talk to women. I always wanted to talk to everyone, but when I give conferences, I see the silent suffering of women. They carry incredible mental charges! They finish raising their children, then they take care of their parents … They wonder: “Are you going to be when, my moment of freedom? When do I be able to take care of myself?” That’s what I want to talk. You have to stop waiting. You have to do it a little all the time. ”
The conversation slides for a moment on Janette Bertrand, for whom Marie-Claude has a lot of admiration. “Janette has always kept contact with people she does not know, and I find that it is really important to meet the other. You don’t need to be a public figure; You can get involved socially, volunteer, and you will always meet people who share your interests and who have stories to tell. It keeps us alive to be new in someone else’s gaze, to feel that we are not held for granted. It is important to put yourself in danger and go a little towards the unknown to keep this flame on. ”
Power is in the’action
Like Ms. Bertrand, the host believes that action must always take precedence over speech. “What I have is not necessarily projects are ideas. I am not a dreamy. I want to do things. It looks like I feel an urgency to live. If we want it to move forward, it’s now that it happens! For example, we received requests to bring Open your game In France, and I am thinking of that right now. We haven’t done it yet, but it’s because I’m lacking time. ”
Among all Marie-Claude’s projects, we find Marie against Goliatha documentary that was broadcast on Radio-Canada at the end of March. She looks at identity theft, a crime of which she and several artistic personalities have been the targets. You can also listen to a four -episodes on the subject. “These two projects took me a long time. We did a lot of filming because we didn’t want to neglect anything. I am very satisfied and above all very happy with the result. I hope it will echo the population and that people will open up to what they have experienced. ”
Of course, we cannot ignore our work to Good evening Good evening!where she replaces Jean-Philippe Wauthier to animation. “I thought it was a big challenge to replace someone at the start of the season. I talked about it with my family, and I told them I was going to accept. I was in the spirit of having fun and learning. ” She claims that this other work experience will undoubtedly make her grow, as well as everything she has touched from the start of her media career. “Basically, in life, we only advance. Sometimes we advance slower, other times it happens faster, but we have no choice: life and time go! I find it extraordinary to have new challenges to take up, and that people trust me to this point. ”
