By excluding the pandemic years, the unemployment rate in Canada has just reached its highest level since 2017 climbing 6.9 % in April, an increase of 0.2 points.
For a third consecutive month, the effects of the trade war caused by Donald Trump are felt, especially in the manufacturing sector which has just recorded the loss of 31,000 jobs in the only month.
This is the highest decline in this sector since January 2009, still dismissing the dark years of COVID.
Unsurprisingly, the automotive automotive industry is also strongly struck by job losses and obviously Ontario is the most.
In Windsor, the unemployment rate jumped 1.4 percentage points to 10.7 %, the highest rate among the 20 largest metropolitan regions of Canada, reports Bloomberg.
A slowdown in hiring is also found when employment has only increased by 7,400 jobs in April.
These gains are observed in public administration, mainly due to the holding of the federal elections.
