It is an alert of the Regional Operational Surveillance and Rescue Center (CROSS) in ETEL, at the SNSM station on the island of Yeu, which was sent this Tuesday, May 6 at around 9:10 am.
The reason: a sailboat, who left for Port-Jeoinville, with four people on board, launched a distress call, after the fall at sea of one of his passengers, aged 70. An event that occurred only two nautical miles to the west of the island of Yeu.
-Quickly, sea rescuers go there, and try to rescue the victim.
“The person was still hung on the boat, in the water. He wore a life jacket. His colleagues could not go up, explains Eric Taraud, president of the SNSM station, and present during the rescue operation. The boat always had its sail and it advanced.“
With a sea agitated by a wind of earth of 50 km/h, the work of help was complicated. Quickly, the SNSM mobilizes a semi-rigid with swimmers and its canoe all time, with a doctor on board. A fishing boat present in the area also comes in reinforcement.
The swimmers intervene, manage to cut the strap. “”It was too long since it was in the water along the edge. Water is 14-15 degrees, describes Eric Taraud. When we got it out of the water, we saw that it was going to be complicated.“The doctor then tries to revive him for an hour, without success. The boating did not survive.
