The Iranian authorities put an end to research and rescue operations on Sunday in the port of Shahid Rajaee, in Bandar Abbas, in southern Iran, after the deadly explosion of last week, which cost 70 people.
According to a press release from the Iranian Red Red Crescent in the province of Hormozgan, research and rescue operations were ended because doctors have not found any injuries or deaths in the past two days, the IRNA government news agency reported.
This decision was made while dozens of parents of missing people gathered at the entrance to the port to request clarification on the fate of their loved ones.
On Tuesday, Hossein Zafari, spokesperson for the national crisis management organization, confirmed that the explosion of April 26 in this key port of the Strait of Ormuz had killed 70s.
Since the explosion, the Iranian authorities have proceeded to their families bodies of 46 victims identified as DNA tests, according to Anadolu.
The authorities have excluded all sabotage as the cause of the explosion, which also made some 1,200 injured.
-On Sunday, the Iranian Defense Ministry denied foreign media affirmations that the explosion was linked to army ammunition stored on the site.
State television reported that the ministry rejected the allegations that an Israeli strike has targeted fuel for missiles or flammable chemicals in the port.
The Minister of the Interior, Esmail Momeni, had previously assigned the explosion to “neglect”, without providing other details.
The Shahid Rajaee port is one of Iran’s main commercial outlets, and the incident has caused concerns about safety procedures and transparency in the treatment of dangerous materials in sensitive infrastructure.
