01.05.25 – On the day of work, almost 200 trade unionists and workers met again at Universitätsplatz in Fulda. The reason: you want to emphasize your demands for more wages and better working conditions. The starting shot was an employee service in the Christuskirche. From here, the demonstrators made their way over the station forecourt to the university square with flags, banners and posters on the way across Friedrichstrasse.

Armin Ruppert, deputy chairman of the DGB Association Osthessen, said im East Hesse | News-InterView on Thursday: “As every year, we are here and demonstrated on May 1st. We are committed to fair wages and employment justice. We also draw attention to wage dumping. But we are not just about money -it’s also about working time models and personnel problems that prevail here.”
Furthermore, the demonstrators emphasized: “The first May remains a day of solidarity, justice and good work. We are calling for fair wages, safe jobs and participation here in Fulda!” Accompanied by music, shrill whistles and loud calls, people got their hearts. Many unions as well as representatives of the SPD and the left showed the flag.
Fascism is not a solution Andreas Güth, managing director of the railway and transport union, gave the central speech of the day. He called for a clear sign against the strengthening right -wing extremism in Europe: “Fascism is not a solution.” He also denounced the growing social inequality, especially with regard to the distribution of assets, and campaigned for more cohesion – especially with a view to the upcoming tariff groups. In view of the ongoing war in Ukraine, Güth emphasized the importance of peace and democratic values in Europe: “No prosperity without peace.”
Matthias Ebenau, the first authorized representative of IG Metall Hanau-Fulda, also had their say and spoke about the increasing pressure on industrial locations and jobs in East Hesse. Afterwards, the may festival offered visitors the opportunity to find out about trade union issues and initiatives.
