This Wednesday, April 30, the King of England, still in treatment, welcomed representatives of organizations and community initiatives to combat cancer to thank them.
“You have the admiration and gratitude of my whole family.” Charles III’s speeches have rarely been borrowed from experience. On April 30, the King of England organized a reception at the Buckingham Palace in honor of associations that support patients with cancer in the United Kingdom. On this occasion, the 76-year-old monarch, who revealed to have cancer in February 2024, expressed his gratitude to “all those who, so disinterested, provide care, comfort and insurance for the 390,000 people who, unfortunately, receive a new diagnosis of cancer in the United Kingdom each year. This represents more than 1,000 new cases per day ”. An extract from his speech was published on the Instagram account of the royal family and the entirety is to be found on their website.

“The darkest moments of the disease”
While the king is currently still treated for cancer whose nature is not known, his words have seemed more intimate than ever. “Each diagnosis, each new case, will be a dreaded and sometimes frightening experience for these people and their loved ones,” he said. But having myself was one of these statistics, I can testify to the fact that this experience can also highlight the best of humanity. ”
Further in his speech, Charles III adds that being himself concerned by the disease “has strengthened what(he has)Observed for a long time during these visits, namely that the darkest moments of the disease can be illuminated by the greatest compassion. ”
Optimistic and rebellious
After thanking the caregivers and accompanying people with cancer patients, Charles III wanted to address themselves “to those who could receive such overwhelming news today, tomorrow or at any time in the future” with words of hope. Words borrowed from British journalist Deborah James, who died of cancer on June 28, 2022: “Find a life that is worth it to be appreciated; Take risks; Love deeply; Do not regret; And always have a rebellious hope. ”
