The Swiss pavilion of the Osaka Universal Exhibition opened its doors on Sunday. For six months, he will present an immersion program entitled “From Heidi to High-Tech”, which traces the diversity and rapid evolution of the country.
Switzerland is a global pole of innovation and high -tech, which does not forget its Alpine origins and traditions, as illustrated by the Pavilion. The latter, extending over 260 m2, was inaugurated in the presence of the president of the National Council Maja Riniker (PLR/AG), said the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFAE) in a press release on Sunday.
The Swiss representation in Osaka is under the responsibility of the Swiss presence, attached to the general secretariat of the DFAE, whose manager Markus Seiler was also there.
Privileged links
“The pavilion aims to allow Switzerland to increase the perception of its capacity for innovation with the general public and Japanese decision -makers,” said ambassador Alexandre Edelmann, Swiss leader, quoted in the press release. It also aims to strengthen the already privileged links between Japan and the Confederation in various fields.
The “Scientific” program is carried out in collaboration with Swissnex, the Swiss network of training, research and active innovation worldwide, around the three themes: “increased humanity”, “life” and planet “.
“Switzerland is committed to designing an exemplary pavilion on the environmental level. Its fluid and organic architecture, combining lightness of materials and energy sobriety, already arouses the interest of the Japanese public and the media,” rejoices the Confederation.
The spheres of architecture, made up of a thin resistant membrane based on bearing structures, integrate into a green and peaceful environment, “offering an immersive and interactive experience”. A shop, as well as the “Heidi Café” with its panoramic view of the Expo website, decorate it all.
Heidi, a timeless figure prized by the Japanese, is the official ambassador. It embodies “the historical friendship between the two nations”.
An accelerator
Japan is the main engine of Swiss exports in Asia, and Switzerland is one of the largest foreign investors in the Japanese archipelago. The Swiss pavilion “must play the role of accelerator for the defense of Switzerland’s interests in the country.”
The official Swiss presence is based on the model of a public-private partnership. Many large companies are represented, as well as organizations such as Swiss Tourism, Swiss Wine Promotion and several Swiss universities.
Society of the future
Expo 2025 takes place from April 13 to October 13 on the artificial island of Yumieshima, in the bay of Osaka. No less than 158 countries as well as eight international organizations are represented. Built around the theme “Design the society of the future, imagine our life of tomorrow”, it plans to welcome 28 million visits.
However, the sale of tickets has not so far had the expected success. It is the second universal exhibition organized by the Japanese city after that of 1970.
