The Brussels prosecutor’s office confirmed on Wednesday that the complaint filed by three Jewish organizations against Brussels deputy Fouad Ahidar (Team Fouad Ahidar) had been classified without follow -up. The elected official of Moroccan origin initially announced this decision, after the public prosecutor established the absence of an offense. The concerned evokes an “immense relief”.
The complaint dates back to February 2024, on the basis of an interview with Fouad Ahidar on the Youtube Zinneke.TV channel in November 2023. The deputy compared the Israeli occupation offensive in the Gaza Strip to the Holocaust, by describing the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023 “small reaction”, after years of Israeli violence.
The Coordination Committee for Jewish Organizations in Belgium (CCOJB), the Jewish Laïc Community Center (CCLJ) and the Forum Der Joodse Organizations (FJO) then seized justice, believing that these remarks would be contrary to the anti-discrimination law and the law against negationism.
-Spokesperson for the prosecution, quoted by Belga, Sarah Gillet said that “after a thorough legal analysis, which was also subject to the Attorney General”, he decided that “the constituent elements of the offense were not united and that there was no need to pursue Mr. Ahidar”.
The deputy then said that this measure confirmed “the decision of the center for equal opportunities, Unia, which had indicated that no element made it possible to highlight anti -Semitic declarations” on his part.
In this sense, Fouad Ahidar believes that “the fight against anti -Semitism is too serious and too important to be diverted” from the requirements of “seriousness, honesty and responsibility”.
