“A Minerval of 4500 euros”
At the University of Liège, this means, according to Geoffrey Geuens, major loss of income in terms of pensions for all staff (up to 40 % for academics). “”These measures will directly have an announced deterioration of the quality of teaching and research; A serious risk on the Minerval which, if it were to compensate for the cuts, should rise to more than € 4,500; An increasing risk of privatization, synonymous with exclusion, increased inequalities and diplomas reserved for wealthy and, in the medium term, late and more difficult stabilization for those who will be intended for scientific career. “
For Geoffrey Geuens, the university, threatened by Arizona reforms, is clearly in danger. “What is played out here is not only the future of teachers or researchers is that of everyone. A weakened university is a weakened diploma. A merchant university is a society where only the richest will have access to knowledge”.
Working group
This is why angry university-Uliège organizes a first mobilization of the movement with a rally scheduled for Wednesday, May 7 at 12 noon in the place of 20-August, with speaking of representatives of university staff and students.
“Angry University – Uliège” was created by a large working group bringing together all the components of the Uliège (students, academics, scientists, administrative, unions). The movement is called upon to expand to other universities, as well as other workers in the public sector.
