At 77 rue Jeanne-d'Arc in (Seine-Maritime), among the notary and real estate agencies, a new contemporary art gallery stands out. It was inaugurated on September 26. Far from the clichés of an inaccessible art place, the Panis gallerydirected by Jean Guillaume Panis, is open to all and seeks to free oneself from prejudices.

An exhibition every two months

Jean-Guillaume, former director of 107, aims a new exhibition every two months. Many names are already on the list, from the color mixtures of Tilt, to the more organic works of Olivier Kosta-Théfaine, through the formalist sensibility of Céline Le Guillou.

For the rest, the gallery owner leaves room for chance: “I keep room for maneuver and continue to explore new things.”

A convincing first exhibition

Currently and until November 22, you can discover the world of Sosthène Baran, Jean-Guillaume's favorite, in the exhibition “of the day”. In this exhibition, Sosthène brings light out of the darkness of his black painted supports. Supports that he picks up from elsewhere in the street.

The Panis gallery tries “to tell a story “. For Jean-Guillaume, “here we are more in the feeling and that says two things. First, my story as an intermittent performer which makes me love the very physical side art made with hands. And my sensitivity for the beauty of banality who can tell a lot.

A place that ticks all the boxes

What makes the gallery so special is also the location. “I found it interesting to settle here, to play with classic bourgeois architectureand bring there contemporary. Does the dialogue between the two make sense? rejoices the manager. You only have to see the neon lights around the moldings, the old and the new blend perfectly.

For him, “it’s more interesting than investing in a sanitized place.” A stone's throw from the station and opposite the Museum of Fine Arts, the gallery finds its place and “there are many passages”
.

Stop the clichés!

Much more than an exhibition space, it is a place of life and exchange where “everyone is welcome, you just have to be curious”.

My advice is to walk through the door. Above all, we must not assume that contemporary art is not for everyone. Whether you like it or not, it doesn't matter, the important thing is to leave having learned something.

Jean-Guillaume does not limit the welcome to potential collectors.
