If LOSC offered good resistance to Liverpool, their next and final opponent in the championship phase of the Champions League caused a sensation. Beaten by Bayern Munich (3-0), Feyenoord becomes a serious contender for the top 8 and therefore a direct opponent of the Mastiffs.
Feyenoord, a confident challenger
If many people had their eyes on the PSG – Manchester City clash (4-2), there is no doubt that Lille closely followed the meeting of Feyenoord Rotterdam, their next opponent in the Champions League. And while we could promise the worst to the Dutch, opposed to Bayern Munich, they finally created a surprise by crushing the team coached by Vincent Kompany (3-0). All thanks to efficiency pushed to its peak with three goals scored in as many attempts on target.
In OM's sights to replace Elye Wahileaving for Frankfurt, Santiago Gimenez scored twice, opening the score from the penalty spot (1-0, 21') before doubling the lead in added time of the first period (2-0, 45'+9 ). With their backs against the wall, Bayern kept pushing throughout the second act, without ever managing to find the fault. The fault of Justin Bijlow, totally impassable. And by dint of discovering themselves, the Germans conceded a final goal at the end of regulation time, scored by Ayase Ueda (3-0, 89′).
Thanks to this unexpected success, Feyenoord returns to level with LOSC with 13 points on the clock before the final day and their duel at the Pierre Mauroy stadium, next Wednesday. There is no doubt that the winner of this match will have great chances of joining the top 8, synonymous with direct qualification for the knockout stages of the Champions League.
