What is measles?
- Measles is a serious, highly contagious disease. It is caused by a virus that travels through the air (airborne route). It is dispersed when a person infected with this virus breathes, speaks and coughs.
- It can take 10 to 14 days between exposure to the virus and the start of symptoms (exceptionally up to 21 days).
- A person begins to be contagious four days before the rash appears, and can remain contagious for up to four days afterward.
