Squid Game fans were just as surprised as Gi-hun Seong (Lee Jung-jae) when they discovered the existence of new games in season 2 of the Netflix program. After a first test of one, two, three sun facing the killer doll, the 456 participants of this new edition were able to discover a team game, then a bloody version of the carousel.
These events allowed French viewers to become familiar with typically Korean games, such as Jegichagi, Gonggi and Ddakji (which fans of the series already knew).
Filming this sequence required a lot of work for program creator Hwang Dong-hyeok, who did not hesitate to get his shirt wet.
Only one actor had to pretend to be bad at games
The latter reveals to our colleagues from Deadline having tested each of the games in the series, in order to better understand the challenge they offer. “I’m good at spinning tops, but not at Jegichagi”, he confided, adding that he feared that the level of the actors would force the production to resort to digital special effects.
Ultimately, everything was able to be filmed in the expected conditions and Lee Jung-jae particularly stood out. “He was good as Jegi, but the timing is really important and difficult to achieve. None of the actors managed it, but JJ finally managed to make the jegi float in the frame” stressed the South Korean director.
-As for Lee Byung-hun, the interpreter of player 001 (who is none other than the man in the mask), he suggested to Hwang Dong-hyeok the idea of seeing his character purposely miss the test to play on the nerves of viewers.
This passage also allows the man at the front to gain the trust of the other players, and in particular Gi-hun, by pretending to lose all confidence.
