The Poitevin painter Claude Dupré died on December 27, 2024 at the age of 77. In Poitiers, his birthplace, he was recognized by his perpetual bow tie and his thick round glasses which gave him a slight resemblance to the culinary critic Jean-Pierre Coffe or the famous architect and painter Le Corbusier.
Claude Dupré began painting in 1974. He said he never exhibited this first painting showing legs. Throughout his career, the artist, who also taught painting, was recognized for his simple lines, his rounded and soft lines, his characters, his objects (many watering cans), animals (several snails and quite a few cats) and its landscapes having pastel colors in common. A painting that did not attack, did not disturb and invited contemplation and imagination.
Permanent of two galleries
Claude Dupré regularly exhibited in Vienne, notably at the Hôtel de Région, the Hôtel de Département and in galleries.
One of his last exhibitions in Poitou was held at gallery 170 (at 170, Grand’Rue) at the end of 2012, beginning of 2013. However, he never stopped painting and selling his paintings, confides his wife. Claude Dupré was permanently exhibited in two galleries in Paris and Dinard. In recent years, he painted a lot of atmospheres on the beach inspired by his vacation home on the Ile de Ré.
