Fribourg-Gottéron holds its final! Lars Leuenberger’s team can win the Spengler Cup on Tuesday if they win against the Straubing Tigers (final to follow from 12:00 p.m. on RTS 2).

After two days of rest, Freiburg beat trophy holders HC Davos 4-2 in a stunning semi-final. Trailing 2-1 at the call of the last third, the Friborgs forced the decision thanks to successes from Linden Vey, Christoph Bertschy and Jacob De la Rose, who scored in the empty cage.

This success is deserved to the extent that Friborg could have forced the decision during a very successful first quarter of an hour. After Vey opened the score in numerical superiority, the Friborgs had the opportunities to double the lead, notably through Raphael Diaz. With their heads underwater, Davos could however take the lead after 20 minutes thanks to the successes of Matej Stransky and Yannick Frehner, partly due to the opposing defensive generosity.

Not really flawless on the opener, Reto Berra recovered fully to deliver the goods for his return to the cage. Lars Leuenberger should certainly still rely on the experience of his goalkeeper for this final against Straubing who will play a fifth match in the space of… 88 hours. A final that Gottéron must win to conclude a very eventful year 2024 on a positive note.
