Gallery FIFTY ONE announces its exhibition, ‘Saul Leiter – Postcard’presenting a rare collection of intimate, postcard-format photographs by Saul Ladder.
The works on display, recently unearthed by the Saul Leiter Foundation, offer a glimpse into his early artistic vision. Originally printed by Saul Leiter on postcard-sized paper, these images reveal Leiter’s portrait of everyday life, from the busy streets of New York to the intimate interiors where he took refuge. Through this collection, visitors are invited to discover Leiter’s ability to transform ordinary moments into poetic expressions, finding grace in everyday life.
Saul Leiter began his career as a painter, a sensibility that he has passed on to photography throughout his life. His images are not mere snapshots; each photograph is carefully composed, capturing the play of light and shadow that reveals the quiet beauty of urban life. Leiter’s ability to discover the poetic essence of ordinary moments makes his work profoundly accessible.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Gallery FIFTY ONE is publishing Saul Leiter’s eponymous book, which will be the artist’s fourth publication. This new publication will include images from the recently unearthed collection, as well as a unique addition: two detachable postcards ready to be shared or displayed as precious mementos.
