“I positioned myself for an alignment with the cathedral from the Sillac district, near the rue de Bordeaux roundabout. As expected, the Moon appeared at 5:10 p.m. over the roof of the building and, in a few minutes, passed behind the campanile, then over the dome at 5:20 p.m.,” he says. “The sun was then about to set and illuminated the cathedral for a few more minutes.”
It was the so-called “Beaver” supermoon. The Earth's natural satellite thus appeared larger and luminous than normal.
The specialized site StarWalk estimates that a super Moon “appears 7% larger and about 16% brighter than an average full moon”. And so it was the last one of the year. To see it again, you will have to wait until November 24, 2026.

Why is it called the Super Beaver Moon? Native Americans “used to give names to full moons according to the particular characteristics of each month”explains StarWalk, which offers two hypotheses on the origin of the name “Beaver”: in November, this animal actively prepares for the arrival of winter cold by building dams or stockpiling food.
The other possible origin of this nickname is that the month of November is the period during which hunters set beaver traps to collect their fur.
